general dentistry New Orleans, LA

General Dentistry

Helping our patients maintain a healthy mouth and smile is the main goal of general dentistry. We prefer to provide more minor, preventive care than to see patients suffer with more intensive treatments from a problem that was not managed in time. We want to ensure that your oral health is in its optimal state and positively contributing to the health of your entire body. We are here to brighten your smile and pave the way for a brighter life.

Extractions New Orleans, LA

Extractions

An extraction is performed to remove a tooth, whether because of disease, crowding, or damage. When extractions are required, the area around the tooth will be numbed and your dentist will remove the tooth. A small amount of bleeding is normal, as your mouth will replace the removed tooth root by forming a blood clot in the area.

Root Canals New Orleans, LA

Root Canals

Root canals are needed when decay and bacteria spread for too long without treatment. At a certain point, this decay makes it to the pulp inside the tooth. This pulp includes nerves, therefore infection generally causes a lot of pain. Since this is happening on the inside of the tooth, you won’t necessarily see the damage. Instead, you could feel it through pain and notice other signs that include bleeding, swelling and bad breath.

TMJ Treatment New Orleans, LA

TMJ Treatment

At Algiers Dental Associates, we are proud to offer temporomandibular joint dysfunction, otherwise known as TMJ, treatments to provide relief for our patients. TMJ is caused by an inflammation in the temporomandibular joint, which acts as a sliding hinge that connects your jawbone to your skull.

What are the symptoms of TMJ?
TMJ causes pain and discomfort along the jawbone and can make it painful to even move your jaw. While jaw pain and discomfort don’t always equate to TMJ, if you are also experiencing headaches, trouble chewing, or pain in the face, jaw, and ear, you’re more than likely experiencing TMJ.

Denture Partials New Orleans, LA

Denture Partials

A removable partial denture is an optimal solution for patients who may be missing one or more teeth in a particular area of their mouth. Removable partial dentures are attached to a gum-colored base which may have a metal framework that helps to hold it in place against the surrounding teeth. These dentures serve to replace missing teeth, restore functionality, and generally improve oral health. When a tooth is lost, and the gap isn’t immediately filled, it can lead to the neighboring teeth to shift; this can create a significant change in your bite and can even cause long-term damage to your gums and jaw bone.

Removable partial dentures are a less invasive method to replace and restore missing teeth than alternative solutions. While they are more cost-effective and less invasive than implants, removable partial dentures require frequent, lifetime upkeep and maintenance. Because these partial dentures are removable and essentially rest on your gums, they need to be frequently cleaned, just like your natural teeth. By cleaning your dentures regularly, you keep your gums healthy and your dentures looking as good as new.

To begin treatment, we will determine if removable partial dentures are the best option for you. Factors such as oral hygiene, the location of the missing tooth gap(s), bone strength, and long-term viability for dentures all determine your treatment plan. Our team will start by taking dental impressions of your teeth which will serve as the mold used to create your dentures. Next, we will review the size, shape, and coloring of each replacement tooth to recreate your natural smile. Once these are determined, we send the molds to a dental lab which creates a mock-up partial denture for you.

During a fitting appointment with our team, we will have you test out the mock-ups to check how they fit, look, and feel in your mouth. This is the time you and our team will make adjustments to the fit or color of the teeth before sending the mock-ups back to the lab for alterations. Remember, your absolute honesty is needed as your feedback shapes the final removable partial denture you will be receiving. Once the final changes have been made to the mock-up, the lab will custom build your dentures. After we receive the final design, your last fitting session will be to make small adjustments for comfort, bite, or fit which can all be made in-house by our team.

Nitrous Oxide New Orleans, LA

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide is a very safe form of sedation. It is inhaled and the effects start within a few seconds. It can be adjusted quickly if a patient is too light or too deep. Also, after a few minutes without the gas, it is safe to drive home. It has very little side effects and hardly any effects on the kidneys, liver, brain, and more.

Nitrous oxide makes many people feel happy and warm. It causes a lot of people to laugh so it is often called laughing gas. It is great for sedation when a person is nervous at the dentist. It is also a great pain relief.

Not many dentists use nitrous oxide analgesia anymore. We would be glad to use it if you are extremely nervous or you need some pain relief during your procedure. Our goal is to keep you as relaxed as possible, no matter what procedure that we are performing.

Anxiolysis Oral Sedation

Oral sedation is a highly effective technique employed in dental practices to help patients feel calm and relaxed during various dental procedures. It involves the administration of medication in the form of pills or liquid that are taken orally prior to the dental appointment. The sedatives used in oral sedation induce a state of deep relaxation, reducing anxiety and minimizing discomfort during dental treatments. This approach is particularly beneficial for patients with dental phobia, those undergoing complex procedures, or individuals with a low pain threshold. Oral sedation is considered safe and convenient, as it does not require needles or intravenous access. Moreover, it allows patients to remain conscious and responsive throughout the treatment while ensuring a comfortable and stress-free dental experience. Dental practices that offer oral sedation prioritize patient comfort and strive to create a calm and relaxing environment to ensure optimal oral health care.

Orthodontics

Orthodontics is the dental specialty that involves correcting teeth that are improperly positioned. Algiers Dental Associates is proud to offer the best and most up-to-date orthodontic services for our patients.

Our orthodontists treat malocclusions which are often called bad bites. This is when a client bites down and their teeth do not line up correctly. We also treat crooked teeth or teeth that simply do not line up correctly. Orthodontists also focus on the development of the facial bones and jaw.

While orthodontics can be considered mostly cosmetic procedures, it is important to fix these problems for a healthy mouth. Teeth that are crooked or do not line up are the perfect place for food and bacteria to hide. They can also be hard to clean, leading to cavities and other problems down the line. The goal in treating problem teeth are to ensure a healthy mouth in the future. It is important to close any gaps between teeth and to make sure that the teeth all line up correctly. Sometimes teeth are crooked and need to be straightened up in the mouth. Orthodontics can also improve eating and even a client’s speech in some cases.

How can these problems be fixed? Braces are the most common treatment though we also treat our clients with headgear, plates, and more. If you have any questions about orthodontics, feel free to contact us today at (504) 361-3277. We would be happy to answer your questions.
